HOW WE OPERATE
Chesapeake Music is governed by a Board of Directors which meets regularly, with responsibility for the financial health of the organization, and overall policy and strategic direction. The board is a volunteer board.
Throughout the year, volunteers work in the areas of communications, marketing, publications, arranging housing and meals for artists, selling tickets and advertisements, raising money, and staffing concerts and other events. Volunteers contribute an estimated 2,500 hours annually to the organization.
Our staff includes Donald Buxton. Founding Executive Director, and Carmen Renée, Assistant to the Executive Director, who manage the day-to-day activities of Chesapeake Music.
Programming decisions and the selection of chamber musicians to perform are made each year by the Festival Artistic Directors, Marcy Rosen and Catherine Cho (who took over in 2020 from Founding Artistic Director, J. Lawrie Bloom upon his retirement). The participating musicians in Chesapeake Chamber Music’s programs are internationally renowned players who have appeared as soloists or in ensembles throughout the United States and abroad. One of the programs, the Biennial International Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition for Young Professionals engages a distinguished international Advisory Board and Panel of Judges.
